La Playa
Here's some pics of the beach in La Serena. La Torre (tower) is a popular spot. 'Playa' means beach in spanish, it's not American slang for 'player' or 'one who has great succes with the opposite sex'.
Cerro
Outside of Vicuna there was a small hill, a 'cerro' which we climbed. At the top there was a small shrine, and a great view of the valley.
Small plaza
Here's a small and pretty plaza in La Serena. The flowers on the right surrounded the entire plaza.
Room
This are pictures of my room. You can see pretty much the whole thing, it's not too big. There's a closet behind me as I'm taking the pictures. You can see I have my own TV. One result of that, I've discovered that you haven't really lived til you've seen 'Dukes of Hazard' dubbed in Spanish.
Nightime shot
This is a nightime shot of the main church on the Plaza de Armas in La Serena.
Plaza de Armas
This is a view of the Plaza de Armas. One of the days in La Serena the President of Chile was there as well. Actually, the 'Presidenta' is a woman, Michelle Bachelet. She had some meetings in La Serena and a lot of the Plaza was roped off. She was supposed to walk throught he Plaza at around 12 or 1 pm. We waited awhile but never got to see her.
Street in La Serena
This is a bustling street in La Serena. One of the days there was a national holiday, so lots of people were out and about.
Group
Here's a number of people we met while travelling. Some of these people we hung out with for several days. There was a group of about 10-12 of us that stayed and hung out together in Vicuna. You can see a dog next to me. Chile is full of stray dogs. Most of them are nice. This one wanted some food, and he decided to post perfectly for the photo.
I don't remember
This was in a little town, I can't remember the name. It was in the Valle de Elqui, which is a picturesque area near La Serena. The region is famous for it's grapes, which are used in wine and also for pisco, a type of liquor I'd never tried until coming to Chile. It's pretty good. We usually mix it with Coke ('Piscola') or Sprite. There's also the 'Pisco Sour', which is really good. In the picture are Eric, Saskia, and Ricardo. Our travelling group was the four of us, though we met up and tagged along with a bunch of other travelling student from Santiago, most of whom were also exchange students or foreigners of some kind.
Hostal Gladys
Here's an inside view of Hostal Gladys. This is Saskia and Eric. Eric is an exchange student from Mexico, I think he's studying business or philsophy. We stayed at Hostal Gladys for 5000 Chilean pesos (per person). That's about 10 dollars. Breakfast was included.
La Serena
This is my friend Saskia, she's an exchange student from Germany, studying law (derecho) like me. Her and I got to La Serena one day before our other friends arrived. In the background you can see a nice little church. The hostel we stayed at was right next to it. It was called 'Hostal Gladys'. It was funny because we ended up eating at a great little restaurant on beach which was called 'Restaurante Gladys'. La Serena is very pretty. To the right of the above scene is the 'Plaza de Armas'. Basically every city in Chile has a 'Plaza de Armas', which means 'Arms Plaza'. Or it could be 'Weapons Plaza', but I'm pretty sure it's 'Arms'.
Cruz del III Milenio
I'm gonna repost all my pictures, with commentary this time. To begin, here you can see a sunset with the Cross of the Third Millenium in Coquimbo, Chile. Coquimbo is a working-class town near La Serena, which is the fourth-largest city in Chile (I think). Walking through Coquimbo near the cross you see a lot of poverty, it's not the most beautiful setting. But the cross looks pretty, very serenic at certain times of the day. The cross is several hundred feet tall. I have some more close-up shots, which I might post.

La Bandera de Texas
Para que sepan. Asi me gusta.
La Bandera de Chile
Bandera means flag in Spanish. For a while I wasn't sure if I should choose to study abroad in Argentina or Chile. Do you see the flag? Maybe you can tell why I'm glad I chose Chile.
Chile conmigo
I'm studying in Chile for the fall semester. On this blog I'll try to post thoughts and pictures (mostly pictures) of my travels and adventures. Gracias por venir!
